Oxygen System - Approvals and training
Approval Process
The FishPac™ LFP800WB oxygen system is rated as Dangerous Goods by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Refer to IATA Special Provision A202. Therefore, before FishPac™ bins/totes can be consigned on aircraft, approvals to carry FishPac™ bins/totes must be obtained from Civil Aviation Authorities (competent authorities) in the countries of origin of the fish and the country of destination of the fish by the shipper and the airline.
Approvals
The FishPac™ oxygen system is approved for carriage by civil aviation authorities in the following countries - Australia, Hong Kong, USA, Canada, Singapore, China, New Zealand, France, Malaysia and Japan. Approvals to freight from and to other countries can be arranged by FishPac™. The airlines that have approved the FishPac system for carriage are Qantas Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Air France, KLM, Malaysian Airlines and Singapore Airlines.
Training Programme
IATA regulations require that before approval is granted the operator/shipper, or his nominated representative, must be trained and certified by FishPac™ or a FishPac™ accredited agent in three aspects of the system:
- Trained in the operation of the system.
- Dangerous goods training is in two parts:
- Preparation of dangerous goods documentation, and the bins/totes to be freighted.
- Handling, use and labelling applicable to the oxygen cylinder.
- Hazmat (USA);
- The person(s) certified must be responsible for preparing each shipment.
On completion of (i), (ii) and (iii) FishPac will apply on behalf of the shipper for approval to consign.
FishPac™ provides manuals for both (i) and (ii). Training takes approximately 1 day and is normally conducted at the customer’s premises. Conditions apply.
On completion of the training, there is a brief examination on the Dangerous Goods training (the manual can be used as a reference). Each shipper is certified, the training and approval process is not difficult.
